A Holistic Perspective Of Hook Up Culture

This week I want to share my holistic perspective of hook up culture.

This week I want to share my holistic perspective of hook up culture. For those of you that don’t know hook up culture refers to a social norm where casual sexual encounters without commitment or emotional attachment are accepted and even encouraged. In today’s world, hook up culture is shaped by dating apps like Tinder. Social media platforms are changing attitudes towards sex and relationships. We all know the risks associated with casual sex like STI’s and unplanned pregnancies, but that’s not what I am writing about today. Instead, I am sharing information about casual sex and its affects on an energetic level.

You see, everything is energy. Therefore, when you engage with other people and things, you’re exchanging energy. Saying hello to the barista while getting your morning coffee, chatting with a co-worker about your weekend plans, and cuddling with your dog – these are all exchanges of energy. So now you can begin to understand that sex is the deepest energy exchange that is possible of humans. Not just your DNA and spit, but your energy AKA your power!

Let’s dig into it.

So, what is sex, really?
SEX is a sacred energy exchange.

And let me be clear about this article. Having sex is not the problem; sex is a potent manifestation tool. But consistent random hook-ups with people you don’t know is the problem. Let’s put it into perspective. So, suppose you go out to the bar. You find a temporary partner for the night. You do this once a month, which is scarce in today’s world. Still, that adds up to be 12 random partners for the year. Yet, your temporary partner is also hooking up every month. And your energy is now intertwined with each of their partners because sex is a deep energy exchange. You must cut the cords. Consciously detach yourself from them. Cleanse your energy. Otherwise, the energy exchange from sex can last days, weeks, or even years. So, how much of your energy have you given away for a random orgasm? I’m sorry but it’s just not worth it. Especially if you are on a spiritual journey yourself, you are looking to heal, and you are working on yourself. Why would you give your power away to someone you don’t know? I believe this comes down to self-respect and self-discipline.

Here’s where it gets worse.

You might be wondering, what even is an energy exchange? ‘I can’t see a difference so is it even happening?’ the answer is yes!

An energy exchange is an exchange of life force (chi/prana). During sex, these energies peak and can blend between partners. This blending affects your emotional and energetic state. Every person carries their own frequency or “vibe”, and these energies intertwine. That means you can absorb some of your partner’s emotions, STRESS, TRAUMA, FEAR, ANXIETIES, KARMA etc. that’s why after being with someone you don’t know, you feel drained the next day.

Also, these energetic cords or attachments can form. These ‘cords’ are thought to remain even after the physical relationship ends, especially if the connection was deep or emotional.

I know not participating isn’t the social norm, but if you are putting in all this time on yourself to be better, is it fair that you allow someone to harvest off your energy? Everyone has their own limiting beliefs, stress, and trauma to work through and that’s hard enough. The last thing you want to do on your healing journey is pick up everyone else’s.

Many of the spiritual gurus I follow practice celibacy for these reasons. I have been celibate for 6 months. I made this decision quite easily from a position of self worth and self-value. I consciously connect to Creator everyday and I don’t want to share my energy with someone who isn’t connected. At the end of the day, it comes down to standards and realizing how powerful you really are. It’s not selfish to not want to share that with just anyone. It’s the opposite, it’s an act of self-love!

I’m not sure why this topic isn’t covered more often but I know it’s important information to share.
This being said, if you have shared your energy with someone and want change having downloaded this new information there are a few things you can do.
Practices like cord cutting, energy cleansing, or intentional detachment rituals are used to clear leftover energies.

In tantra and other spiritual traditions, sex is treated as the sacred act it truly is. It is a mutual elevation of consciousness. When both partners are present, connected and intentional, the energy exchange can lead to profound healing, creativity, and spiritual awakening.

“Imagine a well of passion and desire pulsing within you, all of your desires and longings made manifest in the state of sacred intimacy and pleasure.” – Athena Perrakis.

If you want to heal and transform your life, it will be a mixture of learning new ways but also unlearning old ways. It is becoming conscious of where your energy is going and deciding if that is serving the version of you that you want to be. Giving away my energy for one night of fun was not serving me, and that’s why I’m sharing this with you.
