You Can Be Grateful and Still Want More From Life

Wanting more becomes unhealthy only when it comes from lack. But there’s another place desire can come from. Expansion.

Wanting more doesn’t mean you are ungrateful. It means you’re growing. Somewhere along the way, society planted this quiet belief in our minds that if we desire more from life, it must mean we aren’t thankful for what we already have. As if ambition and gratitude cannot exist in the same space. But that simply isn’t true. You can be deeply grateful for your life while still feeling a burning desire for expansion. You can appreciate the present moment while knowing you were meant for more. You can honor where you are and still refuse to stay there forever.
That isn’t greed.
That’s growth.
And growth is natural.

The Lie We’ve Been Told About Gratitude
Many of us have heard things like:
“Be grateful for what you have.”
“Some people have it worse.”
“You should be thankful.”
And while gratitude is a beautiful and powerful practice, it sometimes gets used in a way that subtly discourages people from dreaming bigger. It turns gratitude into limitation instead of expansion. Gratitude was never meant to silence your desires. It was meant to amplify them. True gratitude doesn’t say, “This is enough, don’t want more.” True gratitude says, “This is beautiful… and I’m excited for what’s coming next.”

Growth Is Built Into Your Nature
The desire for more isn’t a flaw. It’s actually one of the most natural forces in the universe. Trees grow toward the sun. Rivers continue flowing forward. The universe itself is constantly expanding. Why would human beings be any different? Your soul naturally wants to evolve, expand, explore, and experience more of life. More joy. More peace. More abundance. More freedom. More alignment. Suppressing that desire doesn’t make you more grateful. It just makes you smaller.

Gratitude and Desire Can Coexist
Here’s the truth most people don’t talk about: You can hold gratitude in one hand and ambition in the other.
You can say:
“I’m grateful for my life today.”
And also say:
“I know I’m capable of more.”
Both statements can exist at the same time. In fact, when they do, something powerful happens. Gratitude keeps your heart open. Desire keeps you moving forward. Together, they create momentum.

The Difference Between Lack and Expansion
Wanting more becomes unhealthy only when it comes from lack. But there’s another place desire can come from. Expansion.
Lack sounds like:
“I’m not enough unless I achieve more.”
Expansion sounds like:
“My life is already valuable, and I’m excited to see how much more beautiful it can become.”
The first is pressure. The second is possibility. And possibility is where real transformation begins.

You’re Allowed to Want a Bigger Life
You are allowed to want a life that feels expansive. A career that excites you. A home that feels peaceful. A lifestyle that supports your well-being. A community that uplifts you. Wanting those things doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful for what you have today. It simply means you’re listening to the quiet voice inside you that says:
“There’s more for you.”
And sometimes that voice is your intuition. Sometimes it’s your ambition. But more often than not…
It’s your soul.

The Malleable Path Forward
Life isn’t meant to stay the same forever. It’s meant to evolve. That’s why I created The Malleable Path — the idea that your life can shift, reshape, and transform as you grow into the person you’re becoming. The version of you five years from now will likely want different things than the version of you today. And that’s not a betrayal of your current life. It’s natural progression. Growth requires movement.
And movement often begins with a simple thought:
“What if my life could be even better?”

Wanting more doesn’t make you ungrateful. It makes you aware of your potential. So, practice gratitude for everything that exists in your life right now. But don’t silence your dreams in the process. Be thankful for where you are. And excited about where you’re going. Because both can exist at the same time. And when they do…
That’s where the real magic happens.

With love,

Jessie
The Malleable Path.
